GETV sends a friend off to prison…what? September 23, 2006Posted by irinaslutsky in Uncategorized.
A strange night last night for Eddie and myself as we spent some time with Josh Wolf before he turned himself in (again) to federal prison for NOT committing a crime. After a benefit for Josh’s legal fees at Crash Nightclub, mayoral candidate Matt Gonzalez‘ brother Chuck (an accomplished musician) opened the doors of his apartment to a small crew of Josh’s friends in the wee hours of Friday morning. Eddie wrote this about Josh, who’s been befriended by NYT journalist and trouble maker Judith Miller.
“Josh Wolf, freelance journalist, videoblogger and federal prisoner who is not accused of committing a crime, was out on bail while the courts considered his case. Josh is facing a contempt charge for failing to turn over unpublished video footage to a federal Grand Jury. Normally under state law, Josh is protected by the California Shield Law. Since this case has been federalized, the normal rules don’t apply. Full details of Josh’s case can be found on his blog. He has to report to prison in Dublin, CA on Friday, September 22nd at 1pm PDT.”
Besides our interview, Josh also spoke to the BBC, FOX and Frontline during his week out of prison. If you’d like to write to him in prison, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
