Will Harris is a man of a wonderful tech/comedic mind. It only makes sense — he comes to us from accross the pond and has that British sense of humor that is both subtle and over-the-top at the same time. His interview of Leo Laporte is a litmus test for silliness and genius in one take. Will and I had lots of fun hanging out and doing this segment, and I would have killed him if he didnt let me record “Piggy Piggy Snack Snack” for him once i found that wierd caffeine/taurince Snickers bar at the local Bodega in the Mission. Thanks Will! Too bad for the ladies, he’s married now.

Not that this is news to anyone who’se been following this site over the past 3 years. It’s now official, locked in stone, on video, voted on by the toughest Internet brains in the business, yes Irina Slutsky is indeed an Internet Superstar. All she had to do was give Revision3’s Martin Sargent eight intimate minutes. See for yourself and watch Irina’s appearance on Internet Superstar.

While we were in Las Vegas for CES a couple weeks ago, Irina and Eddie were interviewed onstage by Loren Feldman of 1938 Media at the DivX Live @ CES stage. This was more of a SXSW style interview of us with topics ranging from how GETV started, what we think independent media is, our deal with PodTech, network neurality and random other thoughts that no one really cares about. You can see the whole thing here.

The Vloggies were a smashing success last night, thanks to GETV’s own Irina Slutsky who hatched the idea and worked tirelessly for the past couple of months to make the event a reality. Over 300 people showed up at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco to honor winners in 70 categories (35 by judges, 35 by people’s choice). The big winners last night were our new friends Alive in Baghdad (interview coming soon) who took home 7 Vloggies, including Favorite Vlog which came with a new $2000 Intel Core 2 Duo laptop. GETV also won a Vloggie in the People’s Choice awards for Favorite Interview vlog. Scobleizer has the full winners list in Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice. Laughing Squid’s Scott Beale, as always, has the favorite photos from the evening.

More GETV on Reinventing Television October 24, 2006

The way way way LOUDER half of GETV (that’s me, Irina) will be on Jonny Goldstein’s Reinventing Television talk show this Thursday evening at 7pm, October 26.

Really, I’ll just be on for about 5 mins or so since (Jonny writes:) “Boston-based Brian Conley of Alive In Baghdad and (Baghdad phone service permitting) Baghdad -based Omar Abdullah, will be talking about their groundbreaking videoblog as guests this week. Come check it out and find out what goes into producing these weekly web videos which share heartbreaking and  informative footage from the streets, hospitals, and living rooms of Baghdad from an Iraqi point of view. As always, you will be able to text chat questions and comments and there will be an open phones segment.

In the last couple of months one of their correspondents was kidnapped, another arrested, and an assistant to a correspondent was allegedly shot by a US soldier. The AIB crew are giving their all to bring the world an Iraqi perspective on the current situation in Iraq, and  this is your chance to ask them how they do it, why they do it and what’s next.”

As Eddie said last week, you don’t need to go anywhere except your browser to play along. It’s a mash between video conferencing, phone party line, and powerpoint theater with a host (that’d be Jonny). Should be fun, jump in here Thursday at 7pm Pacific and 10pm Eastern.

The quieter half of GETV (that’s me, Eddie) will be on Jonny Goldstein‘s Reinventing Television talk show this Thursday evening at 7pm, October 19. You don’t need to go anywhere except in front for your browser to play along. It’s kind of a mash between video conferencing, phone party line, and powerpoint theater with a host (that’d be Jonny). Should be fun, jump in here Thursday at 7pm.
